Tramping / Hiking over Mount Karioi can be a great experience.

It takes about 3 hours to climb the ancient volcano of Mount Karioi (also known as The Sleeping Lady) to the summit, which is 756 meters above sea level and admire the spectacular views of Raglan, Aotea and Kawhia's amazing harbours and Mount Pirongia and Maungatautari and out across the Tasmin sea.

This trek is good for trampers from the less experienced to the best and DOC have installed chains and ladders to help you negotiate the harder parts.

The pickup point is in Raglan where we drive you to the base of the mountain, which takes about 30 minutes.

At Mount Karioi there are three different options available:

- Wairake Track takes about 2 - 3 hours to Ruapuke Road

- Mount Karioi Track takes about 3 - 4 hours to Te Toto Gorge car park on Whaanga Road

- Or you can start at one point and go up and over the mountain and we will collect you from the other side about 6 hours later, we then returned you to Raglan again

Plan and prepare: Remember that weather conditions can change rapidly, especially at higher altitudes. Always carry a change of clothing, wet weather gear and sufficient water and food.

Or try the Te Toto Gorge Trek, which takes you from the top of this dramatic natural amphitheatre, once the site of extensive Maori rock gardens and we will show you the path that will take you down deep into the gorge and on to the sea.

Te Toto Gorge Track takes about 2 hours there and back.

Plan and prepare: Remember, weather conditions can change rapidly, especially at higher altitudes. Always carry a change of clothing, wet weather gear and suffcient water and food.

Or try the Te Uku Wind Farm Pipiwharauroa Walking and Biking Trail, which takes you over privately-owned farmland on the Wharauroa Plateau crossing steep to rolling terrain close to some of the wind turbines. It is a 18 kilometre return trip.

At 430 metres above sea level, the trail winds over the Te Uku Wind Farm site and offers 360 degree views across the greater Waikato, to include Raglan, Kawhia and Aotea harbours and on a clear day, Mt Taranaki.

Te Uku Wind Farm Pipiwharauroa Trail takes about 4-5 hours there and back or about a 2-3 hours bike track and we can also hire you mountain bikes and then drop at the start of the track and collect you at Bridal Veil Falls.

Note: Weather conditions are changeable and it is important hikers and cyclists prepare for potential changing weather conditions typical to this area. Cyclists and walkers are required to keep to the track which covers private farmland. Dogs are not permitted and there are no public facilities, nearest public toilet is at Bridal Veil Falls.

We also offer transport to other treks like Mount Pirongia, Four Brothers and the Reserve & Bryant Memorial Track
